FORESIGHT SESSION 9. "DISABILITY-INCLUSIVE ROAD TRANSPORT"

Oct. 8, Tuesday. 8:00-11:30

Conference Room C

Chair: Ms Charlotte McCLAIN-NHLAPO, Global Disability Advisor, The World Bank Group, USA

Inclusive road transport that enables independent travel provides a unique opportunity to change the lives of the 1 billion people in the world who live with disability and the one in four households affected by it. This has a significant impact both on the economic and social life chances of the individual and their families as well as on economic prosperity at national and international levels. It is the first time in its long history that PIARC has addressed this topic and the organisers hope that it will attract the attention and support of delegates from around the world for whom this may be a new field but one with profound social and economic impacts.
